I got the call to play this session the two days before it was recorded.  I asked the producer what key the singer would be using, then hung up the phone and started Googling the chord changes for the song.  Then I worked up some ideas across those chord changes and scratched out some rough notes.  Was able to knock out the recording a couple days later in 2 or 3 takes.

The proactive work I've done learning the fretboard really well helps me to come up with arrangements like this much faster than when the fretboard was a mystery to me.
